The primary objective of Caddo Mounds State Historic Site is to preserve the rich and varied heritage of Texas through the lifeways of a prehistoric community in East Texas during the period from about 800 to 1300 A.D. Caddo Mounds was an important cultural and economic center in East Texas and a major settlement of the far-reaching prehistoric Mississippian cultural pattern of the eastern United States.

Children's Advocacy Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties

Mission

The mission of the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) of Anderson and Cherokee Counties is to aid in the prosecution of child abuse by facilitating effective and efficient criminal/civil investigations while promoting healing and justice for child victims and their protective caregivers.

Volunteer Needs

Assisting clients in completing intake paperwork, answering questions, and providing service referrals. Volunteers can also help with data entry, planning and organizing events, playing with children and working with families, administrative duties, general upkeep of CAC area.

In addition, there are opportunities for volunteers to acommpany sexual assault examinations with child victims and their families, court accompaniment, provide community education to children in schools with the Happy Bear Curriculum and assist in agenda preparation for Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting which involves law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and the District Attorney's Office, among others.

It is the mission of the Historic Sites Department of the City of Nacogdoches to foster, preserve and promote local history through the administration of the Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library; the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens; the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot; and the Zion Hill Baptist Church. Family Crisis Center of East Texas

The Janelle Grum Family Crisis Center of East Texas (Women's Shelter of East Texas, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization incorporated to enhance the safety of women, children and men by providing crisis intervention and advocacy services to reduce and prevent the occurrence of family violence and sexual assault through education and community awareness.

Volunteer Needs

Answer admin or crisis hotline, become a trained Sexual Assault Advocate and accompany sexual assault victims to the hospital for exams, assist with children's activities, and assist Thrift Store locations by working with staff to receive and sort donations. Victim safety and confidentiality are the top priorities of our agency and our mission. Volunteers wishing to work directly with victims and their children, or those interested in representing our agency through community awareness activities, are asked to make a commitment to the organization by completing the volunteer orientation and training, criminal background check, and a detailed interview with the volunteer coordinator. There are also volunteer opportunities available for groups or those unable to make large time commitments.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

Court Monitor- Monitors court cases regarding drunk driving for an agreed period of time.
