The SFA Volunteer Program is part of the Department of Student Affairs. The program’s focus is to help customize volunteer experiences tailored to the personal interests and philanthropic goals of SFA students and organizations.
We have done the research for you! We have contacts with off-campus volunteer organizations and services that utilize student volunteers. All of these groups are so excited to work with you and can definitely use the help!
Assistant Director Jamie Bouldin or Graduate Assistant Randi Cooper are available for individual consultations or for group presentations. If you or your organizations are looking for volunteer opportunities please contact Jamie at 468-1088 or Randi at 468-2870 to set up an appointment or feel free to swing by our office in Room 3.302 of the Baker Pattillo Student Center and we will be happy to help you!
If you or your organization would like to join our mailing list to find out about upcoming service events, please send us an email at SFAVolunteers@gmail.com. We are also on Facebook – search “SFA Volunteer Program” and join our group for regular updates on volunteer opportunities in our community.
President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)
In his 2002 State of the Union address, President George W. Bush issued a challenge to all Americans to make time to help their neighbors, communities, and Nation through service. He called on each person to dedicate at least 4,000 hours – or two years – to service over the course of their lives. He created the USA Freedom Corps to help all Americans answer his call to service and help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. This national call for service continues with President Barack Obama’s presidency, with the White House encouraging citizens to give back to their communities.
Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service to others. It encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspires others to make volunteering a central part of their lives. The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours served over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime. Eligibility for the award begins at just 100 hours.
Give Us Five! Campaign
When everyone contributes something, the unlimited potential of what we can accomplish as a university community is overwhelming. This year, we encourage all SFA students, faculty and staff to “Give Us Five!” If each member of our SFA family gave just five hours of service, it would add up to tens of thousands of hours. Everyone can afford five hours – help us by doing your part to make our community a better place.
The Department of Student Affairs would like to promote volunteerism and recognize SFA students and organizations that give to our community! As a university we have the power to make a BIG difference. Let’s join together to show Texas what “The Power of 1923” can do!
In honor of the year SFA was founded, we are seeking the participation of 1,923 SFA students and/or organizations that are willing to complete 25 hours of volunteer work as individuals or 100 hours of volunteer work as a group and earn a spot on our wall of recognition. Individuals and organizations who meet this challenge will be presented with a “Power of 1923” lapel pin and will have their picture added to our wall of recognition in the Student Center for all of SFA and the community to see!
Once you reach 25 hours as an individual or 100 hours as a group, email a copy of your Volunteer Award Time Sheet to SFAVolunteers@gmail.com. If you are participating in the President’s Volunteer Service Award you will still need to submit an updated copy of your Volunteer Award Time Sheet at the end of each semester. Please refer to a copy of the President’s Volunteer Service Award Instructions and Guidelines for details.
