Here is a list of all of the major activity areas the Office of Student Life oversees. While this list is not all-inclusive of some of our series and stand alone programs we hope that it gives you a broad stroke overview of what we do.
SFA Involvement Center
The SFA Involvement Center is your one stop shop to get involved in SFA happenings. From finding out the latest SFA events to signing up for an upcoming fan bus the involvement center will help you realize and fulfill your full Lumberjack potential.
Freshman Leadership Academy
SFA Freshman Leadership is the introductory phase in the SFA Leadership experience. Designed as a class as a part of the SFA 101 program, this highly competitive program selects 50 college freshmen and immerses them in leadership study and introduces them to all that SFA can offer.
Omicron Delta Kappa
Omicron Delta Kappa is the SFA Leadership Honor Society. ODK recognizes the top students who excel in both the classroom and in leadership at SFA. ODK recognizes achievement in five areas: student activities and organizations, athletics, fine arts, student media, and government.
SFA Student Leadership Awards
SFA Student Awards are awarded to students who show the drive and will to change the campus and make a difference. Awards are presented in the following areas:
SFA Presidential Volunteer Service Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award is a program sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation and the White House. Students receive credit for volunteer service completed both in and out of the program and awarded based on the number of hours completed.
SFA Spirit Program
Dedicated to cheerleading and pom excellence, the SFA spirit teams have captured numerous national championships and remain the model program for spirit and dance all over the country. Membership is highly competitive for all of our teams, and we work hard to maintain the high standards that have been set in years past.
Cheerleaders
The Co-Ed Squad has been a part of the SFA spirit landscape for more than 70 years and serves as the ambassadors for spirit and Lumberjack pride at football and basketball games nationwide. Made up of 24-26 men and women, plus the Lumberjack mascot, these students participate in Lumberjack football (both home and away), basketball (men’s and women’s) and compete in the NCA National Championships. SFA Co-Ed took the 1994, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 national championships. Recently, the SFA Co-Ed Squad was the subject of the national best seller Cheer! – Three teams quest for college cheerleading’s ultimate prize.
Small Co-Ed
The SFA All-Girl team is the newest member of the SFA spirit family. This team is member supported and cheers at SFA sporting events and competes in NCA cheerleading competitions.
Pom Squad
The SFA Pom Squad is made up of some of the best college dancers in the nation. Many of our pom members have gone on to be Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Dallas Maverick Girls and Houston Rocket Dancers. This five-time national championship team performs at all home SFA football and men’s and women’s basketball games. They have performed across the state and beyond, and regularly conduct camps and clinics to help other dancers develop their skills. The SFA Pom Squad frequently finishes in the top 10 in competitions in which they participate.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association is the voice of the students at SFA. Representation includes an executive branch (president, vice-president and secretary), legislative branch (student senate) and judicial branch (supreme court). All work together to make SFA a great place to be. Members of SGA meet with the president of the university, Board of Regents and Alumni Board to make sure that student needs are met. Most members of SGA serve in elected positions, but there are a few appointments.
Volunteerism
Many companies now look at volunteering as a minimum guideline for employment because of the obvious advantages for their employees and the community in which they operate. Furthermore, volunteering just makes you feel good. Most folks who give about five hours a week to a cause they feel is worthy report a feeling of self fulfillment and perform better in many other facets of their life, including classes and career.
