Jacks PASS (Pathway to Accelerated Student Success) Program

First-semester freshman applicants who do not meet the admission requirements may become eligible for admission by enrolling in the Jacks PASS Summer Admission program. Students who complete the necessary requirements to enroll in the program will be pre-registered for the 2019 summer II term at SFA and will be required to complete seven (7) semester credit hours including SFA 101. Participants will be given a schedule from an Academic Advisor in the Student Success Center. The 2019 summer II semester begins on July 16th and ends on August 16th. Students who satisfactorily complete the program with an overall "C" (2.0) GPA and who do not have any grades of "F" will continue into the fall 2019 semester. NOTE: Students admitted to Jacks PASS must complete the high school recommended or distinguished program. How do I apply for Jacks PASS?

To apply for Jacks PASS, please complete the Jacks PASS contract.

What documents must I turn in for the Jacks PASS program?
You must first submit a contract to the program and proof of your updated bacterial meningitis shot by May 31 by 5 PM. Secondly, if you are required to test on the TSI, you must submit those scores by May 31 by 5 PM.
What if I'm not denied fall admission before the Jacks PASS contract deadline?
You will not be eligible for the program. You must be denied regular admissions before the contract deadline. However, you may submit the contract while you wait for a fall admission decision.
Can I still come to Jacks PASS if I am admitted for fall?
No. Jacks PASS is for first-time freshmen students who did not gain regular fall admission to the university. If you are interested in attending a summer session, please contact the Admissions Office (936.468.2504) to discuss how to switch your enrollment term.
I'm a transfer student and would like to attend Jacks PASS, am I able to?
No. Jacks PASS is specifically for first-time freshmen students.
Can I pick out my own classes for Jacks PASS?
No. All courses that you will be registered for will adhere to core curriculum requirements or TSI requirements. These courses are selected by an Academic Advisor in the Student Success Center.
When will I know my summer 2 schedule?

You will receive your Jacks PASS courses at the beginning of June, which will be visible in the mySFA account.

How much will Jacks PASS cost?

The total cost including tuition and fees, room and board, parking permit (if you bring a car) and books is expected to be around $4000.

Will I receive financial aid for the summer?

Financial Aid is available during the Jacks PASS program based on your FAFSA application. To be considered for financial aid during Jacks PASS, you will need to complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA application. Additionally, please complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA application to receive aid for the Fall 2019-Summer 2020 academic year. Will I live on campus for the program?

You may choose to live on campus, however it is not required. If you would like to live on campus you need to complete the summer 2 housing application in your mySFA account and submit the $100 deposit. You may go ahead and complete the fall 2019 housing application, as well. However, only submit one deposit.

When can I move in for Jacks PASS?
Students will be eligible to move in to their summer 2 residence hall on July 14th between 2 PM - 6 PM. Students may also move in July 15th after 10 AM.
What residence hall will Jacks PASS students be staying in?

All Jacks PASS students who choose to live on campus will be housed in Hall 20 during the program.

When will I be assigned a residence hall for fall 2019?

You will have access to Select-A-Space through your mySFA account beginning August 22. You can contact Residence Life at 936-468-2601. If you would like more information about student housing please view SFA Residence Website.
