Band, friends, and French--that was Christina G. Thomas’ life as an SFA student. If the clarinetist wasn’t parading down the football field with the marching band or making music to swing and sway with in the concert band, she was performing good deeds away from the spotlight.
The 2004 alum was a member of Tau Beta Sigma (Band sorority), Kappa Delta Pi (sorority for Education majors), French Club, and was featured in Who’s Who in American College and University Students. Christina helped Girl Scouts earn their music badges, worked on the baby gift drive for the women’s shelter, and lent a hand setting up for a Big Brother/Big Sister bowling fund raiser, among other things.
When Christina left SFA, she took away a degree in French and so many happy memories that she “can’t pick just one.” Christina’ enthusiasm for a school that’s “big enough to have a lot of activities, clubs, majors, and courses to take, but small enough to feel at home” and still be “very high quality,” has spilled over into her family. Her little sister will attend SFA as well.
There’s no place like home for the Tyler, Texas, native who’s currently studying for her MA in French at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She especially misses the friendly “feel” of SFA’s French department. After her expected May 2006 graduation from LSU, Christina plans to move back to Texas and teach either French or English, which she is also certified in. And she’ll undoubtedly drop by the campus to visit!
