It’s not all satin and lace but, as Group Marketing Director for Niche Media in New York City, Emily McLintock Kampner loves what she does! Emily was formerly with the Bridal Group at Condé Nast Publications. The 1996 alum from Grapevine, Texas, admits to being “very involved with” her work. Niche Media is the parent company for Gotham, Hamptons, Aspen Peak, Boston Common, Capitol File and Los Angeles Confidential—all oversized, glossy, celebrity-driven magazines. She oversees event directors and teams who plan events to honor the celebrities featured on each of the magazines covers—mixing with the likes of Marishka Hargitay and Luke Wilson. She is also involved with pre-Oscar and pre-Golden Globes parties hosted by the cover talent who are nominated for an award.
Emily’s favorite SFA memories include an assignment she did as a senior in her core classes, a five month long project which required her to create a retail store, complete with a floor plan, fixtures, and ideas to promote the store’s merchandise. Experiences like this, coupled with her BS in Fashion and minor in Marketing, helped pave the Chi Omega sister’s way for a marketing career in a variety of glossy high fashion magazines, including Glamour.
A hometown-girl-at-heart, Emily keeps in contact with her former professors, Drs. Janie Kenner and Becky Greer. The 2004 Edna Teagarden Distinguished Human Sciences Alunna Award is a huge believer in helping students with contacts in the industry, since someone did it for her when she left college.
Being immersed in the surreal atmosphere of sleek suits and fairy tale wedding gowns that is NYC’s publishing world could cause a country girl to forget her roots. So to keep herself grounded, Emily draws on an inner reserve she developed as an SFA student nearly a decade ago, one that grew out of having close contact with her hardworking professors and being involved in academic activities that had a direct impact on her career.
What kind of a wedding does someone who has worked for Modern Bride have? One right out of the pages of a magazine! In true New York style, Emily’s May 14, 2004 wedding to Jeff Kampner, took place at the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, and was featured as a Real Wedding in Modern Bride Feb/March 2005 issue.
