Vince Walsh is the kinda guy who goes around helping people and doing the right thing without ever expecting any rewards. He has made him self available to help some of the library staff move and cut their grass for them. After his August 2006 graduation, the Business Management major will go on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ at SFA. In his on-campus ministry, Walsh will be talking to people about Christ, working with student members of Campus Crusade and speaking at the Thursday nights meetings, planning outreach programs, and running a Bible study program. In short, Walsh will be a campus presence representing Jesus Christ.
While part of SFA's Campus Crusade, the Allen, TX, native has played guitar in the Praise and Worship band for the Thursday night meetings, and gone to Panama City Beach, Florida, for a 6000 student strong conference. In Florida, students worked as missionaries sharing their faith with others on the beach. In an act of hands-on charity, Walsh and nine others went to the lower Ninth ward in New Orleans over Spring Break 2006. During the day, they helped former residents gut their homes of anything remaining, including the kitchen sink, in order to claim insurance. At night, they slept in an abandoned warehouse with about 5000 other people.
When he’s not at his 20 plus hours a week job as Student Assistant to Library Director, Dr. Tiffany Evans, or studying for his 15 semester hours of course work, Walsh is planning campus events, such as Free Coke Day, when Campus Crusade members handed out free soft drinks and Campus Crusade leaflets. A member of Campus Crusade’s core Leadership team, Walsh was also instrumental in the Whiteboard Event, which occurred after Hurricane Rita. The question, “Why do bad things happen in the world?” was posted on a 7 foot tall white board prominently located in front of the University Center. Students from all over campus responded, writing answers on the board, and then attending a Campus Crusade discussion meeting that evening.
Walsh attends Sunday night services for university students at Grace Bible Church, near campus, participating in Crosspoint Ministry Bible studies. And while it seems he can’t squeeze any more into his schedule, he has found time to play intramural flag football in the past. Look for Vince Walsh on campus, crusading for Christ.
