Jordan Hill

Cadet Jordan Hill is anxious to serve in the military but he also wanted to go to college. So when he applied to the Army for a four year scholarship, he was given a choice of three schools. The senior history major from Frankston, Texas, chose SFA because he was impressed with the learning environment created by the talented, personable instructors in the ROTC program, and he fell in love with SFA’s beautiful campus.

The athletic Hill has been involved in “everything ROTC has to offer,” including community service and work with the Explorers, mentoring leadership training and physical fitness activities for junior high and high school students. The four- year Lumberjack intramural flag football player is an active participant in the rugged SFA Ranger Challenge team, which takes part each year in a physically rigorous three day event where cadets from ROTC programs at universities throughout the southwest compete in contests of military skills.

Listing SFA 101, the orientation class designed to initiate freshmen into academic and social life at the university, as his favorite, the SFA Cadet Army ROTC Battalion Commander says he found it especially helpful after graduating from a small high school. Hill’s exposure to the diverse population at SFA has also helped him to develop the ability to work and build rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds, advantageous skills in both the Army and in teaching, which he hopes to pursue after military service.

Currently rewriting the Cadet Guide, the soon-to-be-officer wants to enable incoming ROTC cadets to understand what will be expected of them and help them utilize strategies designed to help them make the most of their ROTC years. However, when Hill graduates in May 2006, he won’t be serving by sitting behind a desk. He’ll be assigned to the armored cavalry as a US Army Second Lieutenant upon commencement of active duty. And he can’t wait!
