A native of North Dakota, Mr. Oster has directed and acted professionally for college, summer, regional and dinner theatres in Arizona, California, North and South Dakota, Texas and Utah. In addition to teaching performance courses and directing, he is Administrator of the Student Productions program and Director of the SFA High School Summer Theatre Workshop. In his years at SFA, he has directed over 50 productions including THE BACCHAE, HAMLET, CHICAGO, LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, HAIR, TERRA NOVA, THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, and most recently, THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA. He has, also, served as Artistic Director of the SFA Summer Repertory Theatre for 15 years.

A member of TETA and the UIL-OAP Adjudicators' Organization, Oster has been Contest Manager of the Region III, Conference A - UIL One Act Play Contest for over ten years and has adjudicated over 60 contests.

In 1996, he was the recipient of the College of Fine Arts Teaching Excellence Award and the University's Teaching Excellence Award. Oster was honored in 2006 by being named a Piper Professor of Texas.
