Scholarships

The School of Theatre annually holds auditions for scholarships for incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students.

The School of Theatre also employs a limited number of work-study students who qualify for the work-study program under Federal guidelines based primarily on financial need. Students may also gain hourly employment as Student Assistants in the Theatre Office, or the Scene or Costume Shop, etc.


Scholarship Auditions and Interviews for Incoming Theatre Students for Fall of 2008


The SFASU School of Theatre will hold scholarship auditions and interviews at the locations and on the dates listed below.

Auditioners should provide the following information for the School:

 
A - Current overall grade average and ACT or SAT scores,
B - A resume of theatre accomplishments and a statement of goals,
C - A prepared audition showing your range and ability. Include two contrasting selections limited to a total of no more than three minutes,


OR

 
C - A design portfolio presentation showing your abilities in aspects of design/ technical theatre. An interview will follow the portfolio presentation.
D - Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your work,
E - and a current photograph of yourself.

Locations and Dates

  1. Texas Educational Theatre Association Convention: Hyatt Regency in Dallas, TX at Reunion.
    Design Tech Presentations: Friday, Jan. 25, 2008
    Acting Auditions: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008
    Students participating in these auditions must be members of TETA and must have been accepted and scheduled by TETA for the auditions.

  2. Stephen F. Austin State University: Nacogdoches, TX
    Open to all incoming students.
    Attend an acting / directing / design class, meet faculty and students, tour facilities, audition for a scholarship, and attend a Studio Hour and / or Mainstage productions.
 
A - Wednesday, November 14, 2007; Attend AS YOU LIKE IT
B - Wednesday, February 20, 2008; Attend THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE
C - Monday, April 21, 2008; Attend A FESTIVAL OF NEW AMERICAN PLAYS

Students planning to audition should apply for admission to SFA. Contact the Admissions Office by mail or phone (936) 468-2504 to receive the necessary application forms.
