Internships

A vital part of our training sequence is our professional internship program.

The School of Theatre at SFA offers our students the opportunity to intern at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, one of the premier regional theatres in the country. Each year qualified students are selected by audition to be interns at Milwaukee Rep. The internships include acting and directing tracks. As part of the internship, our students understudy major roles and are able to rehearse and perform with professionals in the Equity acting company.

Rose Bruford College

L'Institut Del Teatre
Barcelona, Spain

Rose Bruford is the leading professional theatre school in the university sector in England. L'Institut del Teatre is one of Europe's leading theatre conservatories and has an international reputation operating in and from the heart of Barcelona, Spain. Students who major in theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University may apply to spend their junior or senior year abroad studying at these two major professional training institutions as part of their BFA programs.

During this year of study, students will have the opportunity to study performance and staging practices of a variety of European countries through practical workshops, production projects, lectures, and seminars. The program is designed for those students who plan to enter the professional theatre. Students enrolled in the program spend their Fall Semester at Rose Bruford in London, England and Spring Semester at L'Institut in Barcelona Spain.

Houston, Texas

A. D. Players is a unique theater committed to producing plays and programs that uphold human values, offer creativity, and promote literacy and education. From a small group of part-time actors, the company has increased in size to one of Houston's largest resident theaters, impacting more than nine million people.

Arizona Theatre Company
Tucson / Phoenix

Arizona Theatre Company is recognized as one of the most dynamic theatres in the country. ATC has been cited as a national model for professional performing arts institutions. The theatre now attracts some of the nation's most respected and talented theatre professionals. Theatre students at SFA are provided opportunities to serve as interns in a wide variety of areas with this distinguished Theatre.

Dallas Children's Theater
Dallas, Texas

This children's theater company is the largest professional not-for-profit family theater in the southwest and was ranked by Time Magazine as one of the top 5 theaters for youth in the United States. Theatre students who are professionally focused may have a rare opportunity to intern in a variety of areas with this renowned company.

The Guthrie Theater
Minneapolis

A giant of a figure, Tyrone Guthrie, gave the Minneapolis theater an importance that other theaters could not match when it opened in May 1963. The Guthrie is significant as the physical embodiment of his vision for a new type of American theater - a professional, repertory theater presenting classic works on a thrust stage away from the economic pressures of New York and Broadway. It is a major cultural landmark in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities, the state, and the region. The Guthrie Theater is the flagship and prototype for the American regional theater movement. Students seeking a BFA degree in Stage Management have an opportunity to intern at this most prestigious theater.

Theatre Three
Dallas, Texas

Theatre Three is the oldest professional theater in Dallas. They perform shows year-round; from musicals to plays to children's programs. Theatre Three won six Dallas Theater Critics Forum Awards in 1997. BFA students who wish to intern with Theatre Three do so in any number of capacities.

In addition, students may propose to do internships with other companies throughout the United States.
