The Division of University Affairs is a team of great people organized into dynamic units and departments that assist students in making their time at SFA productive and successful.
The SFA Envisioned strategic plan focuses our work on providing transformative experiences for our students.
That is what we work for every day - providing opportunities for our students to change their lives for the better.
Thanks for being, or thinking about becoming, a Lumberjack!
University: Stephen F. Austin State University is a comprehensive institution dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative work, and service. Through the personal attention of our faculty and staff, we engage our students in a learner-centered environment and offer opportunities to prepare for the challenges of living in the global community.
Division: We provide transformative experiences for our students with co-curricular PROGRAMS that create opportunities for students to engage in active and high-impact learning; with ACTIVITIES that strengthen students' connections to the university and to each other; with targeted SERVICES that support our students' pursuit of their personal and academic goals, and we develop and maintain the FACILITIES necessary to fulfill this mission.
2016-17 Reading and Discussion Program: The Undergraduate Experience: Focusing on What Matters Most
- Our university mission statement promises our students that we will prepare them for the challengers of living in a global community by engaging them in a learner-centered environment through the personal attention of our faculty and staff.
- Our divisional mission statement tells students that we create opportunities for them to engage in active and high-impact learning.
- Another way we represent that commitment to our students is through our institutional brand promise that states we will challenge minds and change lives, one Lumberjack at a time.
- The over-arching goal of our SFA Envisioned strategic plan is to provide transformative experiences for our students.
The purpose of this reading and discussion program is to explore how we collectively fulfill these promises and how we can take action to improve.
Small groups will read and meet to discuss the topics outlined in the book "The Undergraduate Experience: Focusing Institutions on What Matters Most." We will hold larger gatherings periodically to discuss how we can apply what we learned through our collaboration.
To help frame the ongoing discussions, we are asking each discussion group to address a set of framing questions. These questions are structured according to four aspects of our brand promise:
- Challenging Minds
- Changing Lives
- One Lumberjack at a time, and
- An Engaging and Supportive College Experience
