Launched in fall 2023 for students with 60 or more credit hours and good academic standing, the Rusche College of Business Faculty Career Mentor Program assigns business faculty members to business students to guide them in setting and achieving their career goals.

About the Faculty Career Mentor Program

This program is designed for you to use as you need it, when you need it. Participation is not required, and there aren't assigned meetings or expectations. A College of Business faculty member serves as your career mentor to discuss career-related topics, including your career goals and how you might achieve them.

What happens during a mentor session?

During a session, your faculty career mentor will focus on your post-graduation success. Your mentor may:

  • discuss your potential career goals and options
  • provide you feedback on long-term career pathway plans
  • discuss access to career-based events and expertise
  • and direct you to career-planning tools and resources.

Who is my career mentor, and how do I get in touch?

If you are in good academic standing and have earned 60 or more credit hours, you are assigned a faculty member based on your major. This helps ensure your career mentor is familiar with your chosen industry and your academic program's coursework. If you change majors within the college, your faculty career mentor also will change. Note: At this time, this program is limited to the College of Business. If you change to a nonbusiness major, you'll no longer have a designated career mentor, but we encourage you to seek that resource in your new academic department.

At the beginning of each term, your faculty career mentor will send you a welcome email. This message will include instructions on scheduling mentoring sessions and other important information.

Your faculty career mentor’s name and contact information will be on the "Advising" page in mySFA.

Business etiquette in a casual setting

  • Be punctual; arrive on time to your session.
  • Use courteous business communication.
  • Apply appropriate effort to ensure your sessions are productive.
