Qualifications STATE'S MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/experience requirements: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in forestry from a four-year university accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Five years of experience in forest protection. Three years in management or supervisory capacity. Knowledge of: The principles, techniques, and practices of forestry, fire behavior, and fire suppression techniques. State and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to forestry and wildfire suppression practices. State budgetary and purchasing policies and procedures. Supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to: Plan unit work objectives and operational activities. Assign and direct the work of subordinate supervisors. Monitor and evaluate program operations and activities. Compile and analyze reports and research data. Interpret state and federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to forestry and wildfires. Prepare and present information verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to seek and administer external grants. Experience with forest inventory and monitoring. Registered forester in accordance with ACA 17-31-301 or the ability to become registered within 6 month. Understanding of tree seedling nursery operations, silvicultural practices, and urban forestry principles. Experience with federal programs for state and private forestry.
