As you might be aware, a cyber incident happened at SFA this summer, starting between June 10 and 12. During this time, threat actors gained access to some files, including those belonging to Counseling Services and our on-campus counseling clinic.

While it is highly unlikely these files would have any value to criminals who are primarily after financial gain, we recognize the vulnerability our past and current students and clients might be feeling. Topics discussed in counseling are often sensitive and discreet. As providers, we intentionally exercise discretion in the notes we keep. We, too, feel violated by this unauthorized access and theft. We empathize and sympathize with the individuals for whom we provide service. We understand the importance of confidentiality and privacy guidelines and work diligently to adhere to them.

As always, we are here to help you. Whether it is about this incident or any other matter, we remain deeply committed to hearing you and helping you through the challenges you experience.

If you would prefer to seek services through another provider, we are ready to provide references and other options. Our greatest interest is in getting you what you need, whether that is with us or through another provider.

Thank you for recognizing the value of mental health services and its importance as you navigate through life's opportunities and challenges. As always, we are here to help you and remain deeply committed to your success at SFA.
