How to Make an Appointment

How to Schedule a Distance Appointment

To schedule an appointment call (936) 468-2401 or visit us on the third floor of the Rusk Building room 332.

Your first appointment is an initial consultation lasting up to 30 minutes and will take place in a distance format. This meeting is not designed to be a counseling session. Once you have scheduled your initial consultation, you will receive an email from your counselor which you will need to open, read and respond to prior to the day of your scheduled appointment. This email will include meeting information, confidentially information and any additional paperwork for you to complete. During the meeting, you will discuss with the clinician the reason you are seeking services, make a plan, and schedule future counseling sessions.

You must be enrolled as a student in order to access services. There is no fee for counseling. All sessions are private and records are confidential. Students can receive up to four sessions per semester.

If you are not comfortable in the working relationship with your current counselor, you have the right to request a transfer to another counselor. If an additional transfer is necessary, you may discuss this with the Director of Counseling Services.

Changing Appointments

If you need to change or cancel your appointment, call Counseling Services at (936) 468-2401. If possible, please allow at least 24 hours before your appointment to cancel or change times.

If you need to reschedule a group counseling appointment with a different counselor, your counselor will return your call at his or her earliest convenience to discuss your scheduling options.

If you do not cancel, or reschedule and fail to attend an individual counseling appointment, your counselor will return your call at his or her earliest convenience to discuss your scheduling options. Please note that a missed appointment without prior notification may be counted as one of the four sessions offered per semester.
