Library Support to Faculty - Providing Access to Streaming Films, E- Books and other Instructional Materials

The library's online resources (e-books, streaming videos and articles) are available for you to link from D2L. If there are materials that are not available electronically, please contact us through the Ask-A-Librarian service, and we can help provide access to those materials. This also include streaming access to feature and educational films through Swank, Kanopy, etc.

March 15, 2020 - CTL support for transition from face-to-face to remote teaching

The Center for Teaching and Learning team is working hard to help faculty keep teaching in the coming weeks. In addition to our Keep Teaching site, we will be offering the support opportunities listed below to aid faculty in transitioning from face-to-face to remote teaching. As many in our community are concerned about staying healthy, we are offering as many virtual support options as possible.

  • Webinars, including:
    • Brightspace Overview and Jumpstart (ideal for those who have not ever or do not routinely use Brightspace)
    • Intro to Zoom (ideal for those who have never used Zoom or need a Zoom refresher)
    • Brightspace Content Overview
    • Brightspace Grading Overview
    • Brightspace Quizzes Overview
    • Brightspace Dropboxes and Discussions Overview
    • Dates and times for these webinars can be found on the Keep Teaching – Support page. All webinars will be recorded, and the links posted on the Keep Teaching site.
  • Virtual and Walk-in Labs
    • Virtual Lab: Available Monday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. (Tuesday hours TBD.) Visit the Keep Teaching – Support page for the link to join the virtual lab.
    • Walk-in Lab: Available Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Steen Library LINC Lab. Please note: For the health and safety of our SFA community, the CDC recommended guidelines for social distancing (six feet between individuals) will be applied during lab use. Physical Plant has cleaned and sanitized the areas that will be used for walk-in support, and staff will be on hand to clean stations after each use. Additionally, if you will be using a specific, portable device (e.g. laptop, tablet, phone) for Zoom delivery and need assistance with it, it will be helpful to bring the device with you to the lab.
  • Phone and Email Support

  • Pop-up Recording Studios
    • The CTL will be providing several pop-up recording studios in Steen Library for those faculty needing a space in which to record mini-lectures. Details will be posted on the Keep Teaching –Support page on the evening of Sunday, March 15.

March 15, 2020 - Moving forward together (CTL support)

As we work together to best meet needs, please keep the following in mind:

  • In order to accommodate support volume and demand, the Center for Teaching and Learning may make changes to its support schedule. To stay up to date on all of the support opportunities available, please check our website, Facebook page and Twitter for updates.
  • While the Center for Teaching and Learning prides itself on providing individual attention to faculty, please note that reaching out to specific CTL staff members during this peak time will not be the most expedient means to gain assistance. For the fastest support, please use the support measures outlined above. We appreciate your patience as we work to meet the needs of many.

March 12, 2020 - Academic continuity

We are committed to supporting the continuity of the educational experience for students and faculty members by transitioning as many courses as possible to distance education modalities. We realize that this will necessitate flexibility and creativity in course design and delivery. The team at the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) has crafted a Keep Teaching site to support you in this transition. The CTL will post information on additional support services on its website and social media accounts.

We need to consider students who, for reasons related to COVID-19, may not have the technologies or resources necessary to complete cousework. During this challenging time, we ask that you be supportive of our students. Throughout SFA’s nearly 100 year history, faculty members have demonstrated great understanding and compassion for our students during times of need, and we share our gratitude for your continuing support for them in this time of need.

March 12, 2020 - Sick & self-isolating faculty

If a faculty member is ill due to COVID-19 concerns, unable to work, or is working part time due to illness, then he or she should use sick leave for the hours of work that are missed. Faculty members who self-isolate are encouraged to communicate with their unit’s (department’s or college/school’s) HR contact. If a faculty member’s department (or host unit) becomes aware of a possible need for Family Medical Leave, he or she should notify HR, which will send relevant information to the faculty member. Information summarizing sick leave and related policies for faculty members can be found in the SFA Policy Manual.

If a faculty member self-isolates due to possible exposure to the COVID-19 illness (although the faculty member is not symptomatic and is able to work), he or she should endeavor to teach and meet with students and colleagues remotely. Faculty members are encouraged to immediately consult with their department, program chair, or Dean’s Office to identify relevant resources, expectations, and information for working remotely. Faculty members should also immediately notify supervisors, students, staff members and faculty members of their plans to work remotely, as well as their plans for covering missed class sessions, office hours, and meetings.

March 12, 2020 - Additional guidance (general information)

We will continue to share more guidance and information with faculty members and the campus community as circumstances warrant.

We want to continue to stress the importance of regular hand-washing and other preventive measures. If you are feeling ill, it is important to stay home from class, events, and your workplace. Preventive actions you should take include:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Keep your hands away from your nose, mouth and eyes.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Use verbal forms of greeting in lieu of handshaking.
