Master of Education in Elementary Education with Initial Certification

The initial certification with a master's degree is designed with you in mind. This exciting and progressive program prepares post-baccalaureate students for teacher certification in EC-6 or 4-8 middle level grades AND is attached to a master's degree in elementary education. Requirements for certification may be met prior to completion of the master's degree.

Why a Master of Education with Certification?

A master's degree with initial certification indicates one's desire to go above and beyond the minimal requirement of certification. The advanced degree provides one with in-depth knowledge of theory and application, expanding initial certification. Some districts actually pay a higher salary for the master's degree.

Elementary Education (pre-K through sixth grade) EC-6

What Can I Expect Upon Graduation from SFA?

Upon the completion of the program and passing the PPR TExES exam, graduates

are eligible to become certified teachers. You will be able to:

  • know, understand, and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to development of children and young adolescents to construct learning opportunities that support individual students' development, acquisition of knowledge, and motivation.
  • know, understand, and demonstrate a high level of competence in their content in the areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • use their knowledge of students, learning, curriculum, environment, diversity, communication, and community to plan and implement collaborative engaging, thought provoking, inquiry-based instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • know, understand, and use formal and informal assessment strategies to plan, evaluate, and strengthen instruction to promote continuous intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of all learners.
  • know, implement, evaluate, and reflect upon research-based teaching, professional ethics, and professional learning resources to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with families, colleagues, professional organizations, and community agencies to promote the intellectual, social, emotional, physical growth, and well-being of all learners.
