This 36-hour secondary education program is designed for candidates who wish to qualify to teach at a community college, high school teachers who wish to qualify to teach dual-credit courses on their campuses, and professionals wanting to pursue a graduate degree for workplace or community education.

This advanced degree is available only if you already hold your teaching certificate. This degree cannot be done in conjunction with the teacher certification sequence.

All courses for this degree are offered online, with regular virtual class meetings.

You will take 18 hours in core secondary education and 18 hours in your chosen teaching field. You will then complete a capstone project in conjunction with a 3-hour graduate course.

Students can complete the 18 hours in any of the following content areas:

  • Art
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Children's literature
  • English
  • Forestry
  • Hispanic studies
  • History
  • Hospitality
  • Kinesiology
  • Math
  • Museum studies
  • Music education
  • Public history
