Mentoring in Human Sciences

The mentoring experience is a mutually beneficial relationship providing support and opportunities for networking and growth in a student's area of interest. Mentoring is an excellent opportunity for you to gauge assistance from a successful peer and from faculty members within your area of study. Through the mentoring experience, you have the opportunity to focus on your future and develop broader skills and knowledge related to your academics and career interests.

Peer Mentoring

Your peer mentor is an experienced human sciences student who is a member of the School of Human Sciences Ambassadors Program. The Ambassador Mentor will serve as a role model for you while striving for excellence and upholding The SFA Way. This student has a passion for assisting other Lumberjacks through their college enrollment! Your Ambassador Mentor will assist you in navigating the university and learning about co-curricular involvement. You mentor also will provide you with support and guidance.

Ambassador Mentors will also assist in connecting you to campus and community resources and services. The Ambassador Mentors are dedicated to your success and integration into the Lumberjack community, specifically in Human Sciences.

Faculty Mentoring

No one knows your career field better than the faculty members in your major. As a member of the Human Sciences Academic Learning Community, you will be paired with a faculty member in your major. With your faculty mentor, you will begin exploring your areas of improvement to accomplish your academic and long-term career goals. Your faculty mentor can enhance your college experience through directly connecting you to opportunities in your future field through their professional network. As you meet regularly with your faculty mentor, plan to come prepared to your meetings and be ready to discuss opportunities and challenges. This mutual relationship is based on your commitment to succeed after college!
