Insurance and payments

SFA has partnered with Academic Health Plans to offer a student health insurance plan for nationwide health and prescription coverage with access to top providers through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) PPO network at competitive rates. For more information, please visit or contact Academic Health Plans at 1-855-899-3451.

Your student services fee assists in paying for some of the cost of your medical care while you’re registered and enrolled at SFA. We require payment by cash, check or credit card for some immunizations and medical tests.

The Health Clinic accepts many insurance plans. This helps us keep costs down and enables us to provide high-quality care to all Lumberjacks. If you have health insurance, you should bring your health insurance card to every appointment at the clinic.

Injuries and after-hours illness are not uncommon while in college.  We strongly encourage you to obtain health insurance coverage, as emergency room visits, urgent care visits, and hospital stays can be extremely costly.

The health clinic provides a variety of immunizations, including:

  • Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis
  • Hepatitis B Vaccine
  • Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV)
  • Bacterial Meningitis vaccine (By law, all students are required to have this vaccine at least 10 days prior to enrollment.)
  • Flu vaccine
  • Tuberculin (TB)
TB skin testing is offered year-round for any currently enrolled student. You must be able to return to the clinic for the test to be read by a nurse within 48 to 72 hours after receiving the antigen. For this reason, we can only administer the skin tests on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Fridays. If you do not return to the clinic within this period of time, it will be necessary to repeat the test after a period of at least one month has elapsed. A $20 charge will be assessed for each test given.

Do you want your immunizations records stored in one place? ImmTrac2 is a voluntary immunization registry service provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services. By utilizing this service you can safely and confidentially store your immunizations in one location.
