Piney Woods Camerata to perform beloved music from Baroque period

April 28, 2015 - Robbie Goodrich
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Piney Woods Camerata at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "La Follia," a recital featuring some of the most beloved orchestral works from the Baroque period, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Among the composers to be included in the concert are Antonio Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, Henry Purcell and Francesco Geminiani, according to Dr. Evgeni Raychev, SFA cello instructor and director of the ensemble.

"It is difficult to pick a featured composition from the program as each one falls into the standard repertoire and is considered a masterpiece from that period," Raychev said. "We are excited about this concert and are certainly looking forward to sharing our collaboration with our students with Nacogdoches' loyal music patrons."

The recital title, "La Follia," comes from a famous work by Arcangelo Corelli that Geminiani transformed into a concerto grosso, according to Raychev.

The concert coincides with the annual celebration of National Music Week, May 3 through 10, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Carthage Music Club.

The concert is a presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students and youth. For tickets or more information, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407 or visit http://www.finearts.sfasu.edu/.
