- Meet at SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet Street
- Nacogdoches Naturally will host a family field trip to Martin Dies Jr. State Park. Weather permitting, there will be opportunities for fishing, bird watching, hiking, and picnicking. Travel time is approx. one hour and 45 minutes. Cost for the event is $5.00 per family. Lunch will be provided. Limited SFA van transportation will be available as needed. Space will be limited so register early. Registration deadline: Thursday January 5, 2012.

- SFA Gardens horticulturists, Dawn Stover and Greg Grant, will cover the A-B-C’s of spring vegetable gardening including soil preparation and composting along with when, where, and what to plant. After lunch, participants will have the chance to make their own crown tire planter to take home. Cost is $30 for SFA Garden members, $35 for non-members, and participant and spouse may attend for $55. Lunch is included. Advance reservations are required. - Dr. David Creech, Regents Professor and Professor Emeritus in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, will present Why Daniel Burnham was right when he said, “Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood.” Creech has been at SFA since 1978 and is director and founder of the SFA Mast Arboretum, Ruby Mize Azalea Garden, and Gayla Mize Garden, and co-directs the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. - SFA Gardens' Reeves Lecture Series to feature Texas A&M-Commerce Professor

- Dr. Gerald Harp, Assistant Professor in Horticulture at Texas A&M University-Commerce will present "Landscape Soils-Growing from the Ground Up." Dr. Harp’s research focuses primarily on sustainable urban landscapes including the use of ornamental plants on building roofs. These “green roofs” absorb incoming sunlight, reducing the heat being transferred into a building, decreasing cooling costs and making the building more energy efficient. The lecture is free and open to the public.

- SFA Gardens horticulturists Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will cover the A-B-Cs of spring vegetable gardening including soil preparation and composting along with when, where and what to plant. After lunch, participants should plan to roll up their sleeves and get dirty! Includes a visit to the compost demonstration site at the SFA Mast Arboretum. Cost is $30 for SFA Garden members, $35 for non-members, and $55 for both participant and spouse. Advance reservations are required.

- Join David Parish, Technical Assistant from Texas Agrilife Extension to learn about rainwater harvesting. Participants will learn the benefits of collecting rainwater, potential yields, different collection systems, and each participant will construct and take home a completed rain barrel for home use. - Dr. Leonardi Lombardini, a Texas A&M University horticulturist, will present "Italian Gardens through Time: from Rome to the Renaissance and Beyond." Lombardini received his Laurea degree (equivalent to bachelor’s and master’s degrees) in forestry from the Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy, in 1993, and his Ph.D. in horticulture from Michigan State University in 1999. A rare plant raffle will be held after the program. The lecture is free and open to the public.
