August 12, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registration and auditions for several areas of the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be held during the next few weeks.

Registration for private lessons, classes and ensembles will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the lobby of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

String, woodwind, brass and piano players are invited to audition for the Pineywoods Youth Orchestra at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 in Room 170 of the Wright Music Building.

The orchestra, directed by Drs. Evgeni Raychev and Jennifer Dalmas, fulfills the need for the development of the classical ensemble for young people, according to Pat Barnett, division director.

The orchestra will rehearse each Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., beginning Aug. 26. Public concerts will be held at the end of the fall and spring semesters. For more information on the orchestra, contact Raychev at raycheve@sfasu.edu.

Auditions for the Lyric Choir (open to third through fifth graders) and the Junior Chorale (open to sixth through eighth graders) will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in Room 125 of the Wright Music Building. The Lyric Choir will meet on Mondays, 6 to 7:15 p.m., and the Junior Chorale will meet on Tuesdays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., beginning the week of Sept. 15.

The Live Wire Choir, open to all children in kindergarten through second grade, will meet on Tuesdays, from 5 to 6 p.m.

In addition to the 12 weekly rehearsals, each choir will also rehearse one Saturday each month, explained choir director Jennifer Weems. Each choir will present an end-of-the semester concert. For more information on any of the choirs, contact Weems at weemsjr@yahoo.com.
