September 19, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An afternoon of outdoor adventure and excitement awaits at the Pirates of the Pineywoods party from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

Aspiring pirates are encouraged to wear their favorite pirate costume as they embark on a voyage through the forest to dig for buried treasure, battle sea creatures, and walk the plank, among other adventures. Food, drink and treasures galore will be served up to the whole crew.

Swashbucklers ages 2-11 must be accompanied by an adult. Seating is limited onboard and reservations are required. Tickets are $25 per person, with the proceeds benefitting children's educational programs at the SFA Mast Arboretum and Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

"The SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center hosts educational events and programs for more than 10,000 kids a year," said Elyce Rodewald, educational coordinator for the event. "This fundraiser supports these efforts and allows us to continue to offer qualities programs for the community."
