NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - On the evening prior to the opening of Stephen F. Austin State University's national juried exhibition, "Texas National 2010," juror Judy Pfaff will give an artist lecture at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, in Room 160 of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus. The event is free and open to the public.

As a pioneer of installation art in the 1970s, Pfaff is well known for synthesizing sculpture, painting and architecture into dynamic environments in which space seems to expand and collapse, fluctuating between the two- and three-dimensional, explained Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries.

Pfaff has extended her interest in natural motifs in a series of prints that integrate vegetation, maps and medical illustrations. A selection of these is included in "Judy Pfaff: Drawings and Prints," which will be on display in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House while "Texas National 2010" is being exhibited in the Ledbetter Gallery.

Both shows open at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10, and run through Saturday, May 22.

During Saturday's opening reception, Pfaff will give a gallery talk and announce the winners of the $4,500 cash prizes. From the more than 600 entries in this year's "Texas National," Pfaff chose 191 pieces by 162 artists.
