Sydni Mitchell of Spring has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to serve as Student Regent for Stephen F. Austin State University for 2010-2011.

Mitchell will graduate from SFA in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in child and family development and plans to pursue a master's degree in public administration at SFA. She serves as president of the SFA Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and is a member of the Lumberjack Leadership Academy and Society for the Advancement of Management.

Mitchell works as a student assistant in the student affairs office and recently interned for The BIG Event, a service-learning project benefitting the Nacogdoches community.

"This is such an amazing opportunity to have the privilege of serving with the Board of Regents and being a voice for the students," Mitchell said.

Mitchell will take office June 1, replacing Morgan Tomberlain of Longview.
