NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Nacogdoches Art League will open "Naco Verde: Art from Recycled Materials" with a 6 p.m. reception on Friday, Jan. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The exhibition includes works by approximately 20 artists from Nacogdoches, Lufkin and Louisiana who have submitted pieces consisting of at least 75 percent reused materials. It will run through Saturday, Jan. 29, in the upstairs Hallway Gallery of The Art Center and is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Junior Forum.

The exhibition is the brainchild of local artist Wally Knight, who brought the idea to the Nacogdoches Art League. "I've been using recycled materials in my art for years. It's always interesting to see what materials each artist chooses and how they are inspired to create art," he said.

Knight hopes the exhibition will raise awareness of recycling options and become an annual event.

The Cole Art Center is open from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
