New York sound designer to speak at SFA

August 30, 2011
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - East Texans interested in the production of film soundtracks are welcome to attend the guest lecture, "Exploring Sound for Film, Video and Multimedia" to be presented from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in the Wright Music Building on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The lecture by New York sound designer Scott Hirsch is part of the SFA School of Music's 2011-2012 Cole Performing Arts Series.

According to Kevin Kelleher, SFA instructor of sound recording technology, his own and SFA cinematography students will benefit from hearing Hirsch speak about careers in sound for film. "But any movie lover will also benefit because Scott is going to dissect the film making process with particular emphasis on the sound of a film."

"Scott will be showing clips from a feature film he recently completed, and he will discuss how his sound design compliments and enhances the film," Kelleher continued.

A question and answer period will follow Hirsch's presentation.

The lecture will be presented in the Music Recital Hall (Room 160) of the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.

Admission is free. For more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
