Finance majors at SFA are analytical thinkers, educated to help both business managers and private individuals to make decisions about capital and commodity markets. Our Lumberjack finance graduates are a cut above the rest, who do interesting and important work that is essential to making the American and global economy work.

Degrees and Minors

B.B.A. in Finance

All of our finance graduates are well prepared to help businesses and individuals make important financial and analytical decisions. Students interested in earning a business degree (B.B.A.) with a major in finance must complete the following courses:

  • University Core Curriculum – B.B.A. track
  • B.B.A. Foundation Curriculum: ACC 231, 232; BCM 247; BLW 335; ECO 231, 232, 339; FIN 333; GBU 325; MGT 272, 370, 371, 463; MKT 351; Two Hours General Electives
  • MTH 220
  • FIN 357, 370, 373
  • 3-6 hours from FIN 401; ACC 331, 332, 333, 343
  • 12-15 hours from ECO 331, or any of the advanced finance electives
  • No more than 6 hours from ECO 331, FIN 361, 369

B.B.A. in Finance - Financial Planning emphasis

The optional financial planning emphasis will prepare students for a career helping individuals and families budget, invest and manage their finances. More information on Financial Planning.

This track can be completed by choosing the following classes:

B.B.A. in Finance - Investment Management emphasis

Kick-start a career in corporate finance, portfolio management or as an investment advisor with the optional emphasis in investment management. This track can be completed by choosing the following classes:

  • B.B.A. Foundation Curriculum: ACC 231, 232; BCM 247; BLW 335; ECO 231, 232, 339; FIN 333; GBU 325; MGT 272, 370, 371, 463; MKT 351; Two Hours General Electives

Minor in Finance

Finance-minded Lumberjacks pursuing any business or non-business degree can benefit from a minor in finance. Students interested in minoring in Finance must complete the following courses:

Non-B.B.A. Candidates:

Minor in Financial Planning

A background in financial planning also qualifies you for a variety of other positions in related fields, including: banking, investing, tax planning, accounting, nonprofit, and more. Students interested in minoring in Financial Planning must complete the following courses:
