    This year marks 50 years of research and outreach at Stephen F. Austin State University’s Walter C. Todd Agricultural Research Center. The 726-acre farm, located roughly 10 miles north of campus on Highway 59, houses six centers focused on beef, broiler, equine, poultry, sheep, goat and swine research and production.

    A recital by J.D. Salas, associate professor of tuba and euphonium studies in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will open SFA’s 2019 Octubafest Celebration.

    Stephen F. Austin State University’s Dr. Christine Butterworth-McDermott, professor of creative writing and literature, has published “Evelyn As,” a book of poetry detailing the early life of chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit.

    Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will host NacogdoTREES, a free community-wide contest encouraging residents to submit their favorite trees located on the SFA campus, their own private property or on property managed by Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation. Pictured is Nacogdoches’ resident Sue Ellen Law and her family with their Southern red oak, which won the 2018 categories of largest crown spread and largest circumference. The tree’s circumference measured19.5 feet, while its average crown spread measured 123.9 feet.
