LEARNING DISABILITIES
Disorders affecting higher neurological cognitive functioning; may be characterized by significant discrepancy between intellectual potential and achievement in one or more academic areas; may affect manner in which individuals with average or above average intellectual abilities process and/or express information.
Limitations may include:
- acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning or mathematical skills
- interpretation of social cues
- time management and organization skills
- problem solving
- auditory/visual memory
Accommodations may include:
- tape recording lectures and/or note taking assistance
- extended time on tests and in-class assignments
- separate testing location to minimize distractions
- use of laptop computer with word processor, spell check, etc.
- calculator
- reader and/or scribe for exams
- alternative testing format, i.e. oral, essay, multiple choice
- instructions/demonstrations delivered in varying instructional modes
- use of handouts, visuals, copy of transparencies
- audio textbooks
