Welcome from the Director of the Early Childhood Lab

Lori HarknessGreetings from the Early Childhood Laboratory at Stephen F. Austin State University! We are excited to share our program with you. We are located in the Early Childhood Research Center at 2428 Raguet Street. Our program began in 1969 and continues to grow strong! Please browse through our site and learn more about our Lab school. The Early Childhood Laboratory teaches based on the Constructivist Theory of Learning, and focuses on 5 Program Goals: Autonomy, Integrity, Openness, Problem Solving, and Emerging Academics.

Availability forms:
Fall 2019 - August 26 - December 13, 2019

Child-care Licensing requires MANDATORY training prior to working with children.
Training is scheduled for AS NEEDED for new TAs.

New Hires
must attend this training to be eligible to work at the ECHL for the
Summer 2019 Semesters. (scheduled at the ECHL)

All Veterans & New Hires MUST attend annual training on Friday, August 16, 2019, from 8 - 10 AM at the ECHL.

Scholarship for our Children

The ECHL Lori McGough Harkness Scholarship was established in 2017, to provide assistance for families who have more the one child enrolled in the SFA's Early Childhood Lab. Both parents must be working full time or be enrolled as a full-time SFA student and must not qualify for additional child care funding through any other program. The scholarship will be awarded each semester beginning Fall 2017.
