Applying for Graduation

This process is best completed through Google Chrome.

Steps to Apply

Detailed instructions to complete the application remotely.

In order for students to create a digital timestamp of the receipt of application to the Graduation Office, it is highly recommended to submit the Request for Graduation Audit via email to graduation@sfasu.edu.

It is not recommended to submit the application via US mail, FAX, or in person.

Read ALL the directions before you begin.

1. Open Google Chrome Browser.
2. Go to bit.ly/sfagrad.
3. Place your cursor in the SID# field and key in the appropriate data.
4. To navigate to the next field, press Tab.
5. Complete steps 1-9 on the application.
6. Click the print icon.
7. Click on Destination.
8. Change destination to Save as PDF.
9. Save file to Desktop.
10. Print your application from the desktop.
11. Sign it and scan it (preferably) in to your computer. If you have a scanner, go to #14.
12. If you don't have a scanner, TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOUR PHONE. Open email and skip to #17.
13. Open a New Tab in Chrome.
14. Login to your mySFA.
15. Open check your email.
16. Click on New Message.
17. Enter graduation@sfasu.edu in the "To" field.
18. Enter your name and SID in the "Subject" field.
19. Attach/Insert Graduation Application.
20. Send.

If you do not have access to a printer, take a blank sheet of paper and at the top of the paper write the words "Request for Graduation Audit Application Signature." Then write your signature below these words in pen, take a picture of the paper and send it to graduation@sfasu.edu.

**No Electronic Signatures Accepted.**

NOTE: The deadline for submission of Commencement Program Information and Name Card data is 30 days prior to the Commencement Ceremony. Applications received after the submission deadline may not appear in the program. A Name Card will be provided, but the student may be seated last in the Ceremony due to the tardiness of the application.

Application Process

Applications are entered in the order they are received.

The process may take several months.

Students will receive an E-mail when their applications are entered.

Candidates must monitor their "SFA Jacks" E-mail for a message from the Department of the student's major or Dean's representative.

Bachelor's degree candidates must review their Graduation Requirement Audit with the representative from the appropriate academic College. Contact the appropriate College for more information.

Checking "Personal Graduation Information"

Students may view "Personal Graduation Information" by following the subsequent steps:

  1. Log into mySFA.
  2. Click on Academics.
  3. Click on the Self-Service Banner.
  4. Click on Student Records.
  5. Click on View Personal Graduation Information.
  6. Read the information block and review Personal Graduation Information for spelling and accuracy of all information.
  7. Submit changes to graduation@sfasu.edu; include name and ID number in the E-mail.

NOTE: The date noted in your MySFA Personal Graduation Information reflects the final day of the semester which is used as the official conferral date of degrees. Dates for Commencement ceremonies are dependent on other factors and may or may not coincide with the Graduation Date noted in the system.

How will the candidate know if he is "good to go"?
  1. Review all information found under Application Information and Commencement Information.
  2. If the candidate has questions regarding academic degree requirements, contact the student's academic advisor.
  3. If changes need to be made regarding the Graduation Application, E-mail graduation@sfasu.edu; include the student's name, ID number and the requested change.
  4. The Graduation Office of the Registrar's Office does not send E-mails or make phone calls regarding graduation audit, deficiencies, or requirements met.

Texas Tuition Rebate Opportunity

Application for the Tuition Rebate occurs automatically when the student makes application to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

According to the Texas Education Code §54.0065, qualified students may receive up to a $1,000 tuition rebate upon graduation from Stephen F. Austin State University. In order to meet the requirements and qualify for the Tuition Rebate, students must follow the advice and counsel of the appropriate academic advisers. For further review, students may refer to university policy, 6.21.

"If I qualify, when will I receive notification?"

Applicants are reviewed for eligibility at the close of each graduation class, approximately 30 days after the Commencement Ceremony. At that time applicants who are disqualified are sent letters from the Office of the Registrar which indicate the reason for disqualification. The letter includes a description of the appeals process.

The names of those students who qualify for the rebate are submitted to the Bursar's Office for further review. The Bursar's Office will notify the students who qualify regarding the disbursement of the refund.
