Welcome to the
Pineywoods Dining Hall
In our mass timber era
The ribbon was cut under the warm August sun and we're excited to welcome you to our new 40,000-square-foot dining hall! The first completed mass timber project in The University of Texas System, the Pineywoods Dining Hall "highlights what makes East Texas special and the unique opportunities we have as a region of our state to contribute to all of Texans and hopefully a new way of building buildings all across the country," said Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA President.
This building shows off the power of mass timber — Southern yellow pine, that is. Cross-laminated timber layers boards at right angles to form strong, waffle-like panels, while glue-laminated timber bonds wood layers into the big beams and columns that frame the structure. The result?
A building that’s strong, sustainable and naturally beautiful.
