Fishing & Hunting

Let us lure you outdoors

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you’ll find a huge variety of fishing and hunting spots right here in the East Texas Piney Woods.

With 31 fishing lakes, some within 30 minutes of the SFA campus, anglers have a different option for every day of the month! You’ll find a variety of fish in the lakes surrounding Nacogdoches, but the area is especially well known for white bass, black bass and catfish.

And if you’re a hunter, you’re in the perfect place. The Piney Woods offers exceptional hunting, from white-tailed deer to birds and small game – even feral hogs. You’ll find a number of guided hunting services and outfitters in the area, too.

SFA Bass Club

Would you like some company while you fish? Want to put your skills to the test? Our Bass club is a great way to spend time with other anglers and compete with a winning organization. The SFA Bass Club has won two national championships in the past 10 years.

Our members participate in several fishing circuits at the collegiate level, including Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS), Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) and BoatU.S. tournaments.

How much are dues?

Our dues vary by semester, but they’re usually $40.

When is practice?

All club members practice on their own; we don’t have dedicated club practices.

Do I need to own my own boat?

While it would be helpful, having your own boat is not a requirement. If you don’t own one, the club will pair you up with another member who does.

For information about joining, email BassSFASU@yahoo.com.
