NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present trombonist Jonathan Whitaker in a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Music Recital Hall of the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building.

Whitaker, assistant professor of low brass at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and pianist May Tsao-Lim, also of HSU, will perform the world premiere of Anthony Barfield's newest piece. The program also includes works by G.F. Handel, J.G. Ropartz and Claude Debussy.

Whitaker holds degrees in trombone performance from Murray State University in Murray, Ky., and the University of Minnesota and has completed his doctoral coursework at Indiana University.

Whitaker maintains an active performance schedule. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Indiana University Wind Ensemble, Augusta College Symphonic Band, Purdue University Symphony Orchestra and Henderson State University Symphonic Band

His orchestral experience includes performances with the Owensboro Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Duluth-Superior Symphony, Jackson Symphony and Paducah Symphony orchestras.

While on campus, Whitaker will present a master class to SFA trombone students.
