NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Lufkin musicians Dixon Shanks, Sid Shanks and Eric Chin will be the featured musicians during a joint concert of the Stephen F. Austin State University Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

The Aces, directed by SFA associate professor Deb Scott, will open the concert with a program that includes the "Tonight Show" arrangement of "In the Mood," Gordon Goodwin's "Hunting Wabbits," and Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good."

Under the direction of SFA Associate Professor Gary Wurtz, the Swingin' Axes will perform Maynard Ferguson's "Give it One" and Thad Jones' "Cherry Juice," and then the guest musicians will join the Axes on stage.

"Guest vocalist Dixon Shanks, the leader of the popular local band Lords of Denman, will lend his energetic vocal stylings to tunes by the rock band Chicago, such as "Hard to Handle" and "25 or 6 to 4," and several hits by Michael Bublè, including "Feeling Good" and "Wonderwall," said Wurtz.

"Also featured on this portion of the program will be Dixon's brother, Sid, on electric guitar and keyboardist Eric Chin, who will bring an extra layer of sound," Wurtz continued.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
