Dr. Steven Bullard

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Steven Bullard, dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been elected president of the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs.

Bullard will serve as president of the association for a two-year term beginning in January. NAUFRP was formed in 1981 with the mission of advancing the science, practice and art of forest resource management through the support of forest resources education, research, service and international programs at the university level. Membership includes university faculty members, scientists and outreach specialists, with leadership provided by deans, directors and heads of more than 80 member universities.

The association deals with university-level forestry issues through federal government agencies, elected officials, non-governmental organizations, forest industry groups, education and scientific organizations, and the general public.

Bullard earned bachelor's and master's degrees in forestry from Mississippi State University and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a fellow of the Society of American Foresters and has expertise in the economics of forest management. Bullard was named dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture in 2009. He previously served for five years as chair of the Department of Forestry at the University of Kentucky and 18 years as a faculty member and administrator at Mississippi State University.
