SFA to stage student-directed 'Art'

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Yazim Reza's "Art" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

In this one-act play, the relationship between three friends is threatened over an expensive abstract painting one of them has purchased, explained Corpus Christi senior Kory Pullam. "As the three men engage in an ongoing debate over the painting's value, emotions run high and the conflict escalates to the point of nearly destroying the friendship."

The play is recommended for mature audiences.

Cast members include Mesquite junior John Lisi, Nacogdoches sophomore Bailey Wier and Lancaster freshman TaDarius Jones.

Previously at SFA Pullam directed "Red God" and assistant directed "Rabbit Hole." He portrayed Willie in "'Master Harold' … and the boys," Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Kulygin in "Three Sisters."

In student-directed productions, Pullam has appeared in "Wine in the Wilderness" and "Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad."

Tickets for "Art" are $3 each. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
