NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Wind Ensemble's 2012 Winter Tour will culminate in a 7:30 p.m. concert on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. Under the direction of Fred J. Allen, director of bands at Stephen F. Austin State University, the ensemble will perform the program being presented to Austin, Temple and other Central Texas high schools Monday, Jan. 30, through Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The concert will open with Richard Taylor's "Salute to Dallas," a fanfare the band premiered at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas last September. The ensemble will then perform Michael Torke's "Javelin," which was commissioned by the 1996 Olympic Committee to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Atlanta Symphony.

David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands, will guest conduct Frank Ticheli's "Rest," and Tamey Anglley, SFA assistant director of bands, will guest conduct Michael Gandolfi's "Vientos Y Tangos." Other works to be presented are John Philip Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea" and Brant Karrick's "See Rock City."

"This is a very tuneful and light-hearted concert," said Allen. "Everyone will find something to enjoy in this selection of music."

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the School of Music.
