NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present faculty member Dr. Brad Meyer in a recital featuring exciting works for contemporary solo percussion at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The event will also be streamed live via SFA's USTREAM website www.music.sfasu.edu/stream.php for those who are unable to attend.
As a part of the Cole Performing Arts Series, the event will feature Meyer performing a wide selection of works for solo percussion, including compositions for marimba, multi-percussion, timpani and snare drum.
"Works will vary in range from J.S. Bach's Suite in e minor for solo marimba (originally composed for lute around 1715)," explained Meyer, " to a new composition written several months ago for snare drum and mechanical metronome by internationally renown composer and performer Casey Cangelosi titled "sleight of and evil hand," which was commissioned by Tom Sherwood for the recent Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Modern Snare Drum Competition."
Other compositions in Meyer's recital include Meyer's own "Grotesque Visage" from his new collection of solo snare drum pieces called "Seven Images: for solo concert snare drum," Christopher Deane's African-inspired Prelude No. 3 for timpani and percussion, and Iannis Xenakis's historic and groundbreaking multi-percussion solo, "Rebonds b."
"This concert is sure to be a 'hit' with all ages!" Meyer humorously added.
