Axe ’Em, Jacks!
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s 2026-27 University Series returns with a lineup of nationally acclaimed artists. All performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building.
This season, themed “A Season in Harmony,” brings a wide range of performances to Nacogdoches, from Chicago blues and holiday traditions to stand-up comedy, soul-pop and interactive magic. The lineup includes The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Will Hearn’s “Grand Ol’ Christmas Show,” “Seasonal Celebration” with vocalist Christie Dashiell, Pete Lee, Jon Lampley and Zak Mirz.
“It’s an honor to be able to bring these incredible acts to our community,” said Dr. Gary Wurtz, dean of the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts. “I think patrons will enjoy the variety and blend of acts that make up this year’s season.”
Sept. 24 – The Fabulous Thunderbirds
The Fabulous Thunderbirds will kick off the series with “A Tribute to Chicago Blues.” Led by legendary harmonica player and frontman Kim Wilson, the performance pays tribute to the Chicago blues sound while showcasing the band’s signature style and hits.
Nov. 21 – Will Hearn’s “Grand Ol’ Christmas Show”
Will Hearn’s “Grand Ol’ Christmas Show” brings a retro radio-style holiday performance to the stage, featuring Christmas classics, sketch comedy and Americana music. The original production by The Grand Ol’ Production Company blends nostalgia and contemporary humor in a lively holiday tradition.
Dec. 5 – “Seasonal Celebration” with vocalist Christie Dashiell
Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Christie Dashiell joins the SFA Choirs for a collaborative “Seasonal Celebration” performance blending jazz, gospel, soul and choral artistry with expressive storytelling and rich vocal warmth.
Jan. 29 – Pete Lee
Comedian Pete Lee will bring his joyful humor to Nacogdoches. Lee was the first standup comedian to receive a standing ovation on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and has appeared on “Last Comic Standing,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” Comedy Central and TruTV.
Feb. 26 – Jon Lampley
Jon Lampley, a trumpet and sousaphone player, singer-songwriter, composer and bandleader, will perform as part of the series. Known for blending jazz, soul, gospel and contemporary roots music, Lampley has performed nightly with “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” house band and has built a reputation as a dynamic frontman and collaborator.
April 24 – Zak Mirz
Magician Zak Mirz will close the series with an interactive magic performance. A “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” winner and “America’s Got Talent” semifinalist, Mirz is known for combining illusions, audience participation and heartfelt storytelling in performances for all ages.
Tickets for new season ticket purchases go on sale Aug. 17. Single tickets go on sale Sept. 1. Reserved seating for University Series performances ranges from $20 to $35, with discounts available for seniors, students and children.
