NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University students received monetary awards - many donated by Nacogdoches-area financial institutions - during a recent ceremony.
Award recipients were chosen by faculty members from the Nelson Rusche College of Business’ Department of Economics and Finance.
“Students were selected based on their academic achievement in their coursework, engagement in research projects, participation in conferences, and pursuit of their future career goals - whether employment, entrepreneurship or graduate study,” said Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev, chair of the department.
Maddison Hunter, finance and economics senior from Midland, received the Entrepreneurship Award, and Mir Tayamen, finance senior from General Santos City, Philippines, received the Portfolio Management Award. Both awards were sponsored by Buchanan Wealth Management.
Hunter also received the Outstanding Economics/Finance Graduate Award, sponsored by Austin Bank.
Other award recipients included banking and finance seniors Ryquell Green, from Houston, who received the Asset Liability Management Award sponsored by Citizens 1st Bank; Haley Bernoir-Lee, from Livingston, who received the Financial Institutions Award sponsored by Cadence Bank; and Micah Collins, from Friendswood, who received the Most Active Banking Major Award sponsored by SFA’s Chadwick Banking Program. Ashley Hale, finance senior from Orange, received the Involvement in Finance Award sponsored by Commercial Bank of Texas.
The Economics Reading Group presented Annie Johnston, economics senior from Conroe, with the Economic Pursuits Award, and Abrianna Wickerson, first-year management student from Alto, with the Economic Interest Award. Both awards were sponsored by the Institute for Humane Studies.
The High-Ranking Economics Major Award, sponsored by the Department of Economics and Finance, went to seniors Jose Gonzalez of Lufkin and Johnston. The High-Ranking Finance Junior and High-Ranking Finance Senior awards, both sponsored by Southside Bank, went to Madison Custer of Spring and Russell Reid of Lufkin, respectively. Evan McDaniel, senior from Austin, received the High-Ranking Banking Major Award from the Chadwick Banking Program.
Recipients of the Undergraduate Scholar Award sponsored by the Economics and Finance Undergraduate Research Fund were Bridget Collier, management senior from Houston; Vanessa Coronado, accounting senior from Nacogdoches; Colby England, accounting junior from Houston; and Eric McCulloh, accounting junior from Marshall.
