The future is now: mastering the digital world
Watch any old episode of Star Trek and then look at the smartphone in your pocket, and you’ll understand that we are indeed living in the future. Digital computers have evolved faster and become more versatile than any other technology in human history, going from a curiosity just a few decades ago to a vital part of our daily lives today.
As a computer science student at SFA, you’ll go beyond theory and get your feet wet with in-depth projects and annual programming contests. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art computer labs in our new Cole STEM building. You’ll gain the skills you need for a variety of jobs, from digital animation to spacecraft design. And you’ll make contact with industry leaders through our advisory council to explore possible internships and jobs.
A Message from the Department Chair, Dr. Deborah Dunn
Greetings and welcome to the Department of Computer Science at Stephen F. Austin State University. The Department of Computer Science is dedicated to serve as a center of excellence for intellectual, cultural and educational development. The department provides a broad educational experience through programs that foster knowledge and understanding of the technology-oriented field of computer science and that are complementary to and supportive of programs in other disciplines.
We are currently celebrating more than 40 years as a department and are excited about being in the College of Science and Mathematics. One of the most exciting things is our anticipated move to the new Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building. Please take some time to explore our programs, and we hope to see you soon in our new digs!
