SFA theatre students to present Heifner's 'Porch'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed "Porch" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

SFA students to study abroad, participate in Cannes International Film Festival


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students will have the opportunity to study abroad and participate in the Cannes International Film Festival in France this May.

Photographer Orton to discuss unique Upshaw family photo project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Texas photographer Richard Orton will discuss his book "The Upshaws of County Line: An American Family" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The presentation takes place during the fourth annual Nacogdoches Main Street Wine Swirl, which is a wine-and-food pairing event that showcases Texas wineries and local restaurants inside the doors of downtown Nacogdoches businesses.

UPDATE: Student Center dining resumes operations


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - All retail and dining operations in the Baker Pattillo Student Center have returned to normal following a minor fire that damaged the facility Tuesday night.

Iktus+ Combo to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The New York City-based Iktus+ Combo will perform a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

An ensemble of saxophone, electric guitar, piano and percussion, Iktus+ Combo is described as "a slick combination of classical music and straight up rock-n-roll," according to Dr. Brad Meyer, professor of percussion studies in the SFA School of Music.

Parrs to perform music of Brahms


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Andrew Parr, professor of piano at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present an all-Brahms program when he performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Joining him on the program will be his wife and guest pianist, Linda Parr. The major work to be performed is Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 83. Linda, who is a piano instructor in the SFA Music Preparatory Division, will perform the orchestra portion of the work.

SFA's Culinary Café to host exhibit, book signing in celebration of Black History Month


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's hospitality administration program is showcasing the artwork of SFA Professor Emeritus of Art and former Regents Professor Charles D. Jones this semester in the Culinary Café.

An opening reception will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Culinary Café located in the James I. Perkins College of Education Annex, 1620 Raguet St. The reception is free, open to the public and celebrates Black History Month. Light refreshments will be served.

SFA highlighted in Blue Jeans Go Green Denim Recycling Program video


Stephen F. Austin State University partnered with Cotton Incorporated in the fall to collect denim for the Blue Jeans Go Green Denim Recycling Program. Students collected 5,750 denim items, which will be repurposed into UltraTouch Denim Insulation and distributed to communities in need.

SFA one of 44 campuses selected for the Re-Imagining the First Year of College initiative


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University has been chosen as one of 44 campuses across the nation to take part in a three-year initiative created by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Aimed at redesigning the first-year experience to embolden students' success in undergraduate years and in the 21st century workplace, Re-Imagining the First Year of College will assist SFA in implementing sustainable changes to help increase student retention and graduation rates.

Bobo receives national award for 2016


Dr. Linda Bobo, program director for the professional Master of Science in athletic training at Stephen F. Austin State University, received the National Athletic Trainers' Association Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award for 2016.

This award recognizes NATA members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and distinguished professional activities as an athletic trainer. Additionally, the award recognizes NATA members who have been involved in service and leadership activities at national and district levels.
