SFA to recognize outstanding alumni at awards banquet, Sept. 17


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor five alumni during its awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

The SFA Alumni Awards honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of SFA.

Almost 12,000 students enrolled for fall classes at Stephen F. Austin State University.  

SFA music faculty to present Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The concert highlights the talents of the diverse School of Music performing faculty, according to Dr. Jamie Weaver, associate professor of music history at SFA and president of Pi Kappa Lambda honors society. Proceeds from the concert fund scholarships for deserving SFA music majors selected by the honors society.

SFA’s Department of Agriculture offers new degree emphasis in agricultural communications


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS — In an ongoing effort to help ensure student success and expand courses to encompass the diverse field of agriculture, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Agriculture now offers a specialized track in agricultural communications. 

SFA art professor to participate in prestigious panel discussion


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Piero Fenci, professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University, is among the artists selected to participate in a free, virtual panel discussion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

The panel brings together a group of locally and nationally distinguished artists and thinkers to reflect on how HCCC has grown over the past 20 years and what the future of craft as a field looks like.

SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to host first Brave Space of fall semester


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its first Brave Space Series of the semester at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room.

The program, “Through the Looking Glass,” will discuss ways to view situations and issues through individual perspectives.

Nieberding tintype exhibition showing at Falling Star Gallery


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – An exhibition of tintypes by Bill Nieberding, associate professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University, will show Sept. 11 through Oct. 9 at Falling Star Gallery.

“Reflections in Silver” features tintype photographs that explore a range of East Texas subjects and still-life.

SFA School of Theatre’s Mainstage Series features ‘something for everyone’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For unique, live-theatre experiences in an intimate setting, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre offers its 2021-22 Mainstage Series featuring three outstanding plays presented on the SFA campus and another play presented in the neighboring town of Center.

Alumni golf tournament named after hall-of-famer Bob Sitton


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Bob Sitton ’60, the longtime Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association director who helped endow hundreds of scholarships that generated millions of dollars, is being honored with a golf tournament in his name.

Sitton, who led the association from 1972 to 1998, will be the namesake of the Bob Sitton Classic at Homecoming, the annual golf tournament at Piney Woods Country Club. The alumni association approved the name change for the event formerly known as the Annual SFA Alumni Homecoming Golf Tournament.
