NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Charter School has been ranked the best charter elementary school in Texas.
Niche, an organization dedicated to helping users find the best colleges, schools, neighborhoods and companies using data and analysis, ranks schools and districts based on statistics and reviews from students and parents. It recently ranked 315 Texas charter elementary schools, and SFA’s Charter School came out on top.

Tuba, euphonium recital to celebrate SFA’s 14th annual Octubafest
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty members J.D. Salas and Daniel Chapa will present a tuba and euphonium recital with collaborative pianist Hyun Ji Oh in the opening event of the 14th annual SFA Octubafest celebration.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Cole Concert Hall and is part of the SFA Friends of Music Concert Series.
Octubafest is an international concert and recital series started by the Harvey Phillips Foundation to showcase the tuba and euphonium as solo instruments, according to Salas.
SFA’s A Cappella Choir to present ‘Music of Our Time’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s A Cappella Choir will present “Music of Our Time” when the choral ensemble performs its first concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
‘Oklahoma!’ preview, fundraiser slated for Nov. 1
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Reservations are still being accepted to attend the “Oklahoma!” preview and fundraiser presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and SFA Culinary Café from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the café on the SFA campus.

Funeral service to be held in Johnson Coliseum; parking modifications
A funeral service for Bradley Jimmerson will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Johnson Coliseum on the SFA campus.
Jimmerson, a deputy with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, died Friday, Oct. 5, when he was struck by two vehicles on U.S. 259 north of Nacogdoches, after being dispatched to remove debris from the highway.
SFA Society of American Foresters student chapter wins national championship
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For the first time in the chapter’s decades-long history, the Stephen F. Austin State University student chapter of the Society of American Foresters clinched the national title of Society of American Foresters Quiz Bowl Champions, defeating 32 collegiate teams from across the U.S. during this year’s national convention held in Portland, Oregon.
“It’s very rewarding to see the early morning practices, as well as the hard work and persistence finally pay off,” said Dr. Rebecca Kidd, assistant professor of forestry at SFA and SAF faculty advisor.
East Texas Restaurant Association to present scholarship funds to SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The East Texas Restaurant Association is donating $12,000 in scholarship funds to Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the hospitality administration program.
These funds will supplement two scholarships, which are annually awarded to SFA hospitality administration students.
