NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the one-act play "Postponing the Heat Death of the Universe" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Lumberjack Cultural Association and Office of Multicultural Affairs will launch the annual Diversity Week with the theme "All Shades" beginning Monday, April 1.

"The OMA and Lumberjack Cultural Association strive to unite the SFA community through this event," said Jalon Berry, assistant director of the OMA. "Throughout the week, we will host educational events that celebrate and promote diversity, multiculturalism, social justice, equality and inclusion."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Employees from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, recently met with Stephen F. Austin State University Rusche College of Business students to share their insights.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As the use of technology expands to encompass almost every activity in our lives, it has become an integral teaching tool in higher education.

This past fall, two faculty members in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of History utilized new media to team teach the senior capstone course by introducing podcasts into the program.

“Podcasts are a growing medium that encourages students to consider audience engagement beyond the professor reading a paper and stuffing it in a desk drawer,” Dr. Hunter Hampton, lecturer of history, said.

Austin State University assistant professor and sports business program coordinator, will serve as the interviewer for the second installment of the Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series, which will feature professional skateboarder and successful business owner Tony Hawk as the guest speaker.  

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As technology continues to change the way students learn, professors are discovering new ways to establish a virtual classroom.

Dr. Scott Hutchens, Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Psychology chair and professor, recently created an online version of the general psychology course to help SFA’s dual credit initiative.

“I do not ask my faculty to do anything I would not do myself,” Hutchens said. “Thus, I decided to develop the online course during the summer of 2018 in order to lead by example.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University secondary education senior Katie Peterson was awarded the Ann Rogers Scholarship from the Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association.

The scholarship benefits a social studies student teacher in Texas. It is named in honor of Ann Rogers, who served as the director of social studies for the Texas Education Agency for 10 years.

After attending a conference at the University of New Mexico in 2012, a Stephen F. Austin State University faculty member became inspired by the concept of peer mentoring - so much so that she developed a program for SFA theatre students that has proven successful and continues to grow and evolve.

CC Conn's mentoring program utilizes highly qualified junior- and senior-level SFA students as peer mentors.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Seven Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members will be honored this week for their outstanding contributions to the classroom during the Teaching Excellence Awards Convocation, which recognizes one individual from each of SFA’s six colleges and a seventh chosen by the Faculty Senate.

The convocation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents’ Suites A and B. The event is free and open to the public.
