NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase its largest group of senior choreographers during its production of Danceworks: Polysemy, which premieres at 7 p.m. April 19 in the HPE Complex Dance Studio, Room 201, on the university campus.

True to its theme “Polysemy,” which means the coexistence of many possible meanings for a word or phrase, the Danceworks production will feature a variety of dance styles and topics.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome international performer and master pedagogue Dr. Scott Herring when he performs with students in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

“We are extremely excited and fortunate to have Dr. Herring, who has trained some of the finest percussion performers and music educators in the country, perform and give several clinics at SFA,” according to Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies for the SFA School of Music.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Veteran voices heard during recent years in SFA’s Opera Theater will share the stage with some of the university’s younger voice performance students when Stephen F. Austin State University presents “The Magic Flute” April 12 through 14 in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Sophomores with their first leading roles and graduate students completing their master’s degrees will showcase the depth and versatility of talent within the SFA School of Music when the students perform in W.A. Mozart’s fairy tale for all ages.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Dr. Amanda McWhirt, assistant horticulture professor at the University of Arkansas, will present “I Have a Thorny Issue to Discuss: Blackberry Basics.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - "Peter Sarkisian: Video Works" will open with a reception and gallery talk by the artist from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University's downtown art gallery.

The exhibition, which features video projections on sculpture, will show through April 21 in Reavley Gallery. Sarkisian is an American new-media artist whose work combines video projection and sculpture to create a hybrid form of multi-media installation, according to John Handley, director of galleries for the SFA School of Art.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University is partnering with Lone Star College to offer students in the Houston area an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in sports business from SFA without having to relocate. The two institutions will sign an articulation agreement to ensure a smooth transition for Lone Star College students to attend SFA.

A signing ceremony commemorating this collaboration is scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Lone Star College University Center in The Woodlands. The ceremony is open to the public.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens and the university's student chapter of the National Association for Interpretation are sponsoring the Great Backyard Bird Count from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Senior interior design students at Stephen F. Austin State University will showcase their talents during the "Essence of Design" exhibit on display from Feb. 17 through April 5 on the second floor of the Steen Library on the university campus.

The exhibit is open to the public and will kick off with an opening reception from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 17. Randy Johnson with Johnson's Furniture is sponsoring the reception along with Lufkin Printing sponsoring the invitations.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Music Preparatory Division of the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University is introducing early childhood music classes as part of the spring lineup of educational offerings.

Dr. Kristin Lyman, coordinator of music education for the SFA School of Music, will lead the classes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Music Prep House at 3028 Raguet St.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Music the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will perform at this year’s Texas Music Educators Association convention will be presented in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

“This concert is a preview of pieces we will perform at the TMEA convention in San Antonio in February,” said Fred J. Allen, director of bands.
